A pattern that stops calling a failing dependency after a threshold, failing fast until it recovers, so the failure doesn't cascade.
States: closed (normal), open (failing fast), half-open (probing recovery). In FDE work, breakers protect your service from the customer's flaky upstream - pair with a retry budget and a fallback path.
