Verify the Tested Artifact Equals the Deployed Artifact

45 min hands-on · Core

A local machine with a container runtime; a demo build pipeline (script or local CI) producing one image plus two staged deploy targets.

Local guide: run the steps below on your own machine in order, then check the validation list.

Objectives

  • Build once and record the digest through test stages
  • Deploy the same digest to two targets and prove equality
  • Expose a deliberate rebuild and show the digest gap
  1. Step 1

    Build once, record everywhere

Build the demo image once, record its digest, run the provided checks against that digest, and deploy the same digest to both staged targets. Quote the digest at each stage.

  2. Step 2

    Prove identity

Compare the digest the tests ran against with the digest each target serves. Show all three equal with quoted comparison output.

  3. Step 3

    Stage the rebuild fault

Add a rebuild step for one target (same tag, fresh build with a floated base or dependency). Show the same tag with a different digest and write why the green suite no longer covers that target.

How to confirm it worked

  • One digest quoted at build, test and both deploys
  • Equality comparison quoted and passing
  • Rebuild fault staged with the digest gap shown and explained
