FDE Foundations · Module 1: The FDE Role

Stakeholders and Communication

You serve operators, IT, security, and executives at once. Each needs a different altitude: same facts, different framing.

Objectives

  • Map the stakeholder cast on a typical engagement
  • Choose the right cadence and format per stakeholder
  • Write a status update that a busy executive can read in 30 seconds

The cast

A typical engagement has four audiences. The operator feels the daily pain and knows the workaround. The IT or platform owner controls access, environments, and change approval. The security reviewer decides what may ship. The executive sponsor funds the work and needs proof of value.

Altitude, not volume

Same facts, different altitude. The operator wants: what changed, what to click, what to do when it breaks. IT wants: what runs where, what it connects to, what the rollback is. Security wants: what data moves, what trust boundaries exist. The sponsor wants: is the metric moving, what is at risk, what decision do you need from me.

The weekly update

A reliable pattern is a five-line update: shipped, next, risks, decisions needed, metric. Thirty seconds to read. Consistency matters more than polish; a sponsor who trusts your updates stops asking for meetings.

Communication is not a soft skill here. It is the mechanism by which your technical work gets approved, funded, and adopted.

Quick check

An optional 2-3 question self-check. Answers never leave your device, are not stored, and never count toward any assessment.

Exercise

Draft the five-line weekly update for a fictional engagement: an invoice-matching pipeline you deployed last week at a logistics company. Invent plausible facts and label the document as fictional.

Pass criteria

All five lines present, each under 25 words, risks and decisions concrete, and the document carries a visible 'fictional example' label.
