Build Incident Timeline and Response Order from Event Cards
50 min hands-on · Core
A table with the provided changing event cards (impact, mitigation progress, conflicting theory, new symptom) plus a timer. Fixture scenario, labeled as a drill.
Local guide: run the steps below on your own machine in order, then check the validation list.
Objectives
- Order the response card by card: mitigate, preserve, diagnose, communicate
- Hand off the lead mid-drill without losing the thread
- Link every decision to its triggering card
Step 1
Open with order
Name the lead, start the timeline, and triage the first impact card with severity from user impact. Start the timer; the timeline is the first deliverable.
Step 2
Work the changing cards
Play each subsequent card in turn: mitigate the symptom, preserve the rotating evidence, park the conflicting theory until mitigation lands, communicate on the clock. Quote each decision with its card.
Step 3
Hand off mid-drill
Transfer the lead with a brief (impact, actions in flight with owners, open questions, next update) and a read-back. Continue to mitigation with the new lead and nothing lost.
How to confirm it worked
- Timeline ordered with severity from user impact
- Every decision linked to its triggering card
- Handover brief with read-back recorded
- Theory parked until mitigation, quoted
